It should have been called Giggly Smile, because you could almost interpret the instrumental part of the song as giggling. Or is it a belly laugh?

Well, this’ll probably be my last pick unless I get really lucky before the end of this version of the game. And if this is it, this is a good one to go out on! Great song by a great band that I was introduced to by my dad when I was a little, little kid. I’ve known this song since I was about 2, and while you could argue Hüsker Dü have done better, I still give “Eiffel Tower High” a hearty 10. Thank you for all the work you’ve been doing on this game, Rob! Can’t wait for Round 3!

(And for what it’s worth: I did actually visit the Eiffel Tower on a trip to Paris back in 2012. Does, in fact, go pretty high up, although the guardrails help.)

Hüsker Dü – Eiffel Tower High

4

Little trivia note: Candy Apple Grey was probably the first album that my daughter ever heard, as she lay in her bassinet as a little baby blob. This was a bit of circumstance as much as anything (I thought the album was disappointing, except for "Don't Want to Know If You Are Lonely"), but the joke kept up for a while. My younger brother even ordered her an Etsy shirt later, so somewhere in her closet she has a band shirt, around 12-Month size, with the Hüsker Dü logo.

I'm afraid I'm rather indifferent to it. It kind of works as one of many rockers on an album, but on it's own it doesn't make an impression to me. The actual Eiffel Tower is harder to miss.

The wacky thing about something like Biggest Fan is that an obscure artist can get four entries if they just have one forum user who is a fan. Tom Milsom – or his pseudonym/ side project Gemini Eye – has no critical standing, few plays on Spotify, barely any ratings on RateYourMusic and not even that biggest proof of cultural relevance: a Wikipedia page. But Milsom has the support of starchman46 and they give him his fourth appearance here.

Here’s another Christian rock song, but this time not from Father2theMan’s list, but from phil’s. It is a rare song of the genre to find crossover appeal and a hit status among mainstream or secular audiences.

I've complained several times here how Christian rock tends to feel surprisingly fake, insincere and musically poor. I'm glad to hear Jars of Clay making actually good Christian rock. This is actually rousing and uplifting.

I couldn't quite remember Janelle Monáe's role in this and listening to it now I still don't know what it is. Is she a background singer? Otherwise this is fine upbeat pop, but thin and I don't particularly like Antanoff's voice.
The “Carry me home tonight” bit is her.
When you wrote this I had no idea what you were referring to. I listened to it again, trying to find the "Carry me home tonight" moment and it is a very non-descript bridge. Is this the biggest waste of a featured artist ever?
I think Live in Phoenix is onto something when he states he never know this song is playing until the chorus. The chorus is super catchy, but the rest of the song is basically blah.

Most songs on Biggest Fan come from albums, some are singles only, a few originate from compilations or EP’s and classical music does it’s own thing, but I think today is the first song that originates from a mixtape. I’m proud of prosecutorgodot for still being able to find new angles.
Perhaps because of it’s origin it isn’t on Spotify.

The fifth Prince track to appear in the second edition of Biggest Fan is the second to come from Romain’s list, which actually ties him with Moonbeam, who in comparison to the first edition has underperformed as the world’s biggest Prince fan this time around.

981. Prince – We Can Funk
Year: 1986 (technically unreleased, so no release year)
Unreleased, you're listening to an illegal version :o

Death Grips – Spread Eagle Cross the Block: 8
I'm not sure if I ever listened to anything by them except I've Seen Footage, but damn, this hits like a truck. Never thought a surf rock instrumental from the fifties would be used as the prime sample for a particularly furious sounding hip hop song, but it works as if it is made for it. Cool discovery!

Prince – We Can Funk: 5
Sorry Romain, but I don't really care for this version. It seems interminably slow after a while, which is strange for a song with that title.

982. The Church – Already Yesterday (1985) 10/10

I am a sucker for Pachelbel chord progression (I even wrote a song using it when I was a teenager). And many songs on my all time list feature Pachelbel's recipe, with titles as short as "Step" and as long as "Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space." But one of my favourite uses of the famous chord sequence is The Church's "Already Yesterday," even if it's only used in the luminous chorus, carried by a web of jangly guitars, while the verses use reverb-laden voices and guitars with shimmering melodies too.
