I was thinking about the fact that certain new lists will not affect the AM chart, but if we talk about a Top 10000, it is a fact that many international albums have the potential to enter. And about major lists that already have 95 to 100 percent of albums on them and that haven't been considered yet, is there any chance as long as it doesn't take too long for them to be included?

I still think the criteria are messy for that one, with only women who debuted in the 21st cenrury. I don’t know how to deal with that in deciding what songs were eligible for the list. Any suggestions?

Songs from 2000 to 2018 performed by women soloists and bands with women members* (that debuted in the US or obtained significant relevance during 21st century according to voters)**

* Objective facts
** Subjective criteria, especially for non US artists. (Ann Powers -who was in charge of the list- says that the idea was only that the songs on the list represent the canon of female artists of the 21st century)

JazzWise previous versions, Creem Magazine, Rick Beato lists, Tom Moon extras. The Simon Frith includes songs and albums at the same time, I know it's a special one.

After a few days without a computer, I'm back to let you know that I'll be working on gathering some of the international lists from the Critics' Lists subforum into spreadsheets. I'll start with those focused on Latin American countries and Spanish-speaking regions, as I'm most familiar with them. If anyone else wants to take on other regions, feel free to join in.

Thanks VacantJoy! What I would really love to include here are the Musikexpress lists, but we don’t know for certain all the exact album titles (some spotify songs are taken from compilations). The songs lists themselves could probably be included, but I would like to see evidence that it’s their favorite song from each album, not just a random selection. And it feels a little weird to include the song lists without the album lists, as the album lists are the main ones in the magazines.

I think I had not seen this info from the source before. Not sure if I will find time to add this list for this update, but that’s good news.

Oh, the 2021 version IS included in the update I'm working on. I have added it to the list of song lists in this topic now.

As for the 2024 update...I agree with Elder:
Elder wrote: Wed Feb 21, 2024 2:12 pm This type of irrelevant update discredits the original list and RS itself.
In the original list 300 voters, currently around 5 RS members

As Avril Lavigne would say: Complicated
I'll see what I can do. :)

The other ones have less priority to me, and/or require too much work.

My question in this topic was if I had missed something major/obvious. Like the RS list. Otherwise I think of the suggestions from panam, lagire and you as recommendations for following updates. I hope this is fine with you.

Sorry if this sounds negative, but the discussions about what lists are not included make me a bit exhausted and I will not let the work on the site ”take over” my life like it used to during the 00s-10s.

I definitely understand the frustration some of you have after finding and transcribing all these lists that will not be included. But the expansion to 10,000 albums and the lists I am going to add is already a bit of stretch for me. I need to move on now with enthusiasm rather than pressure or guilt.

I won’t have more time in the future either, but hopefully we can build a solution that is much more collaborative. But that’s for later…

my question about this '' I won’t have more time in the future either, but hopefully we can build a solution that is much more collaborative. But that’s for later…''

If we add all the needed info about the albums , create the spreadsheets , after the critics sub-forums are categorized and decluttered , what are you doing exactly ? Do you create the final version of the spreadsheet by combining all the spreadsheets together and adding the formula of weighting score to it ?

The Rolling Stone songs list got un update this year. (So 2 version not included so far)

I apologize. I get confused because of the previous comment. You've just said that.

”all the needed info about the albums”
What info and what albums are you talking about here? Background info? Ratings from various sources? There are already about 60,000 albums and 60,000 songs that have been mentioned in one of the critics lists I have added. If all lists in all subforums are added too that means many thousands more. Do you mean info about all of them?

It’s the merging of different spreadsheets/lists that usually takes most of the time. There are always different spellings etc. that makes it a time-consuming task if you want to do it without many errors. This is something I will need to ask for your help a lot more in the future.

yeap background info , i mean about all of them and that's an idea i am sharing (I DONT MEAN THAT YOU HAVE TO DO WHAT I AM SAYING) { sorry for the CAPS  but from getting my words out of context/misread therefore getting attacked its better  } , are these different spelling by the variety of languages ? do you mean me specifically because i am not that experienced with excel and etch that's why i didn't contribute with the spreadsheets apart from time ... in the future i will try to organize the ''EOD 2010'' , ''lists of lists'' i will move each post to the right category and ''REGULARLY UPDATED LISTS'' that you have told me to start new topics and lagire is willing to help , btw mercury prize was posted in EOYs although the same kind of lists were posted in ''REGULARLY UPDATED LISTS'' (hall of fame) so i moved everything to ''duplicate'' and created a new topic in ''REGULARLY UPDATED LISTS''

I definitely understand the frustration some of you have after finding and transcribing all these lists that will not be included. But the expansion to 10,000 albums and the lists I am going to add is already a bit of stretch for me. I need to move on now with enthusiasm rather than pressure or guilt.

Going to second this. This coming update is already going above and beyond my expectations with its expansion of albums to 10,000, and looking at the albums and songs being added to the site, the variety is insane and includes a great many previously overlooked areas. Henrik, you should certainly do everything at whatever pace you’d like and I think you’ve been exceedingly fair with your suggestions as to how lists that aren’t being included could be included in the future. Just know that me and so many others are so excited for the update whenever it comes and in whatever form it takes.

I third Jonathon’s and Holden’s sentiments. Just focus on what YOU feel is possible to achieve this update, Henrik. The rest can wait until the next update.

So I hope you’ll be able to take a deep breath and reach a point of calm about this. And that you’ll find some joy in the knowledge that your next update will be an exciting event for a lot of people, whatever is included or not included.

As much as I've always wanted 10,000 albums (One of my favorite bands is potentially getting EIGHT albums added to their ranking next update. Should help their ranking), I never expected it, and honestly felt it would be selfish to ever ask for. Henrik is making his life more of a pain in order to give us the biggest reordering of the site in almost ten years. If I were Henrik, I wouldn't do it.

There's always going to be another list, and if the goal posts keep changing, the update will never get done. I stand by Dan and Holden in supporting Henrik with whatever he's got the time and energy to give us. We can hash out the future after the update, and figure out how to make the process more collaborative in order to take the burden off of Henrik. For now, let's just enjoy what we're getting, and not be greedy.

Henrik, do what you want, it's your wonderful website. And thank you for all the years of musical research you've made possible.
Many thanks to those who transcribed all these lists, whether added to this update or not. :romance-kisscheek:

Agree with what everyone has expressed above. For years, I literally start every morning checking out the AMF to give my day a bright start. I could never thank Henrik enough for everything this site and all the great people involved with it have contributed to my life. I'm appreciative of all the updates over the years, but those are just the cherry on top of the sundae for me. I'm just grateful the best music site on the internet is still active so many years after I first discovered it! :romance-grouphug:

Exactly! I was 19 when I discovered this site. I’m 40 now. This site has helped define my music fandom as an adult. It’s wild that the site is getting bigger two decades on!

Kinda hope the Rolling Stone Stevie Wonder list makes the cut. I’m selfish.
