Following the link, the list is posted as a series of images, which makes it impossible to copy-paste it directly here. I may undertake the endeavour of tracking down the records in the list at some point in the future (this is NOT a solid promise, I'm quite afraid of the amount of the work this would be), but I don't speak Chinese and I would be very glad to leave this to a more competent person, if someone volunteers.

I'm aware of some of these records already, the Cui Jian, Chyi Yu and Lo Ta-yu ones. I have to thank the Japanese lists that featured international albums and that Taiwanese list of the 200 best Taiwanese albums from a few years back. Apparently the list also includes Taiwanese artists. Good to know, although not completely a surprise.

Also noting that some of these album titles are written differently in other sources. I assume this is the difference between simplified and traditional Chinese, although I don't know much more about that.

I'm aware of some of these records already, the Cui Jian, Chyi Yu and Lo Ta-yu ones. I have to thank the Japanese lists that featured international albums and that Taiwanese list of the 200 best Taiwanese albums from a few years back. Apparently the list also includes Taiwanese artists. Good to know, although not completely a surprise.

That“The 200 best Taiwanese albums”list also includes albums from mainland China and Hong Kong（Some places even have Singapore,Malaysia,Thailand）, Not only the Taiwanese Music.

As you can see, I'm simplified Chinese user（cause I'm from the mainland China）, but the simplified and traditional Chinese too close, I may not even notice it when I read

A few days, I will share more lists about Chinese music,Chinese tv show, Japanese comics（called“Manga”）, Japanese tv show. I think AM、ComicsBookConan、Treasuretv（except Anime）there are too few spots from Asian, and they have too few topics in AMF.

ryanryanyoshizo answered; that dude is wholesome as heck Here's the list in text format as they sent it to me for people's interest. I will work on a transliterated version; hopefully I'll complete it some day. They say that normally all the albums in the list are indexed on RYM, they themselves added the missing entries there as it's where they initially built up the list for their own conveniency. Also, any album in Chinese language from anywhere in the world was eligible for the list; it didn't have to be from mainland China (I have to personally amend that: from my initial research, albums with songs in Japanese or English also appear in the list, it's not necessarily only Chinese). They say they excluded politics entirely when they built up the list. They also plan to update the list at some point in the future, as they are now unsatisfied with it.

Here is a suggested transliteration for the list; I don't speak Chinese, therefore it is extremely tentative. Chinese transliteration is a discipline in itself, which shouldn't be handled by an amateur like me. This for several reasons:

- there are many systems for the transliteration of Chinese. The current official one is the pinyin system (which itself exists in two variants) and is the one used by Google when you type Chinese text in Google Translate and is written below the text you typed. Another popular system is the Wade-Giles system which was popular before the creation of pinyin. I've seen a sort of convention online to use Wade-Giles to transliterate the names of the acts, and use the pinyin system for the transliteration of album titles. I tried to stick to this, although I don't know why it's like that.
- there are currently two writings in use for Chinese, the traditional one and the simplified one which has been promoted since the middle of the XXth Century. This purely applies to written Chinese; the pronounciation of spoken Chinese remains the same. The list that ryanryanyoshizo provided to me is written in simplified Chinese, but when perusing the Chinese Wikipedia, RYM or Discogs, I've mostly run into traditional Chinese. For transliterating the list below, I (almost only) used traditional Chinese because that was more simple for me when doing research, and it does not reflect any personal stance on the topic.
- there are actually two main languages that fall under the "Chinese" umbrella term: Mandarin and Cantonese. It is beyond my current skill to differentiate the two, but they are written with the same alphabet. I highly doubt Google Translate is capable of differentiating the two, which is another reason why I wouldn't trust my transliteration work too much.
- Chinese people traditionally use two different names for themselves: a Chinese one and a Westernized one. That's why it is extremely frequent in the list that there's a name for the artist, followed in brackets by a Chinese form with the note "reads as" as the Chinese characters don't match at all the preceding Westernized name.


Regarding the list itself, I have some observations to make. I hunted down the release years for all the records, and you will likely notice quickly that the list is OMEGA-stacked toward XXIst Century records, there is only one record from 1979, after that the earliest year is 1982 with three albums, and all the others were released after. This can likely attributed in part to the fact that UPEE is an amateur website, although they're trying their best to feel "professional", and therefore they may have trouble distancing themselves from the current sound of popular music and give older sounds an "unbiased" listening. However, it must also be noted that rock music did not exist in mainland China until the 1980s for political reasons; it probably existed in some form in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Singapore but with very restricted audience (the list of the 200 best Taiwanese albums from some years back didn't really mention any rock album before the 1980s, with the earliest records in that other list being campus folk and contemporaneous pop records). I assume that UPEE chose the birth of Chinese rock as the cutoff for their list; I don't know why they didn't explore traditional Chinese pop from before the 1980s but I can assume a lack of knowledge about these earlier music styles from UPEE contributors, some issue with the availability of records from this era in China today, some form of contempt/self-deprecation for music that is not Western-influenced to some extent (I've seen that for other countries before), or a combination of factors. On the positive side, it must be acknowledged that politics were apparently not involved in the selection; there are records from Taiwan, and others from Hong Kong artists who have shown hostility for Chinese politics (like HOCC). I don't know how dangerous this approach can be for Chinese journalists, professional or amateur, but this is commendable.

In terms of format, this is the usual one I've been using in Japanese lists, although it will look slightly more wordy and complex due to my doubts and the complexity of Chinese transliteration:

Considering the conditions of music journalism in China (and restrictions), this list is eligible to me. I hope Henrik considers this.

Regarding the list itself, I have some observations to make. I hunted down the release years for all the records, and you will likely notice quickly that the list is OMEGA-stacked toward XXIst Century records, there is only one record from 1979, after that the earliest year is 1982 with three albums, and all the others were released after. This can likely attributed in part to the fact that UPEE is an amateur website, although they're trying their best to feel "professional", and therefore they may have trouble distancing themselves from the current sound of popular music and give older sounds an "unbiased" listening. However, it must also be noted that rock music did not exist in mainland China until the 1980s for political reasons; it probably existed in some form in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Singapore but with very restricted audience (the list of the 200 best Taiwanese albums from some years back didn't really mention any rock album before the 1980s, with the earliest records in that other list being campus folk and contemporaneous pop records). I assume that UPEE chose the birth of Chinese rock as the cutoff for their list; I don't know why they didn't explore traditional Chinese pop from before the 1980s but I can assume a lack of knowledge about these earlier music styles from UPEE contributors, some issue with the availability of records from this era in China today, some form of contempt/self-deprecation for music that is not Western-influenced to some extent (I've seen that for other countries before), or a combination of factors. On the positive side, it must be acknowledged that politics were apparently not involved in the selection; there are records from Taiwan, and others from Hong Kong artists who have shown hostility for Chinese politics (like HOCC). I don't know how dangerous this approach can be for Chinese journalists, professional or amateur, but this is commendable.

Sorry for seeing this paragraph so late and now I‘m answering something, I’m not good at English, Cause I have only received very basic English education,so the discussion won't be much perfect, maybe.

In China, people really think Cui Jian/Lo Ta-yu are the greatest popular music artists of All time, in fact, few people talk about 1950~1980s music (including Hong Kong and Taiwan), Until pushed forward 1940s, people will talk about jazz music from Shanghai, young people from China today is few listen to traditional ethnic music, they only will talk about Integrating traditional music to Pop/Rock music, etc.

And the censorship, yep, China have a very strict censorship system, you can’t listen many artists in Chinese authentic platform, Like Bjork,Tat Ming Pair(Hong Kong), etc. But you still can talk about them, and by some easy ways to hear their music, so actually Bjork and Tat Ming Pair still have a lot of numbers listeners in China, in fact, in Chinese community, everybody said the censorship system is a joke, It's just a formalism, the government not care. The ‘Chinese journalists‘ actually is very safe. So don't worry too much about this, either.

I figured Cui Jian and Lo Ta-yu were considered the greatest Chinese artists, I guess Faye Wong too. And I'm not surprised that young people are not listening much to music from before the rock era, like I said there are a lot of countries where this is the case. Where I live music journalists have been really focusing on rock music until the 1990s, and they only really started digging other traditional music styles from my country in the 2000s in their lists.

Faye Wong is good, but she is Internationally acclaimed more than domestically, in China talk about greatest Chinese popular music artists, choice between Teresa Teng、Cui Jian、Lo Ta-yu、Zhou Xuan（1930~1940s Artist）, and then are Hou Dejian 、Chyi Yu and Tat Ming Pair.
