Best Moderately Acclaimed Album Of 2024

Post by Jirin »

Before I kick this off I want to give anyone else who wants to run it a chance to take it. I'm still super busy so if I run it we will just do 5-4-3-2-1 scoring again. If nobody takes it in the next few days I'll kick off the nomination round.

I'd appreciate if someone did, I just don't have time to run these competitions anymore.

No problem!

Let the nominations begin! One album per person, which must not be in the Top 50 on MCCh, or likely to be up the top of the end of year spreadsheet. Deadline for submissions is the end of the year GMT.

I'll start by nominating Brigitte Calls Me Baby - "The Future Is Our Way Out".

Lupe Fiasco | Samurai
Jerry Cantrell | I Want Blood
These are the only two 2024 albums I’ve listened to so far, but they were both pretty good, and are only moderately acclaimed.

Please could you narrow your choice to just one album? Thank you!

I nominate AURORA - What Happened to the Heart?

Never participated in one of these games before, so we'll see if I discover any new favorites!

Isn't this one at least in contention to do well on the EOY lists?

Unlikely. Searching Greep’s name in the EOY 2024 only has 10 results out of 67, none of which rank the album particularly high.

Thanks for taking the reins on this TheLastEnemy! Because your Brigitte Calls Me Baby would've been my nomination I guess I'll have to go with The Decemberists - 'As It Ever Was, So It Will Be Again'. Two of the year's best IMHO. :music-rockon:

I will go with Erika Angell - The Obsession With Her Voice.

I just started my year end competition, I don't know what's going to end up my favorite albums of the year, but this has been a top 5 album for me all year and nobody else seems to be aware of it.

Sarah Kinsley - Escaper

This was my first year really diving hard into music in general! I listened to all the MCCh headliners and opening acts and lots more, mostly from listening to New Music Friday. This album is my standout favorite outside of any albums that have appeared on MCCh.

I thought that, but looking at the last MCCh it's in the very low 70s, so I think it's fine. Obviously not as critically acclaimed as we thought it should be!

Ah, it's going to be one of those albums that have big differences depending on which part of the world is chosen. :-)

Is this really all that acclaimed and/ or successful anywhere in the world? I thought I was one of the few who considered it one of the best releases of the year.

Looking at the French sites, I clearly had the impression that this was one of the favourite albums of 2024 from the majority of music sites and magazines that I read. I only look at the foreign sites here, for the EOYs. If it's not the case in other countries, it's better, it will make a very good moderately acclaimed album. :D
