I'm really surprised. I've heard of "Jeanne Dielman" but never seen it. I complain about the s.o.s. making the Sight and Sound top 10, so it'd be stupid of me to get mad when they finally actually talk about some other movies. I just never would have expected that as the #1. (Once Citizen Kane hit #1, I think only Vertigo and Tokyo Story topped either the critics or directors poll since -- and in each case, only the last time around, so it was extremely exclusive company.)

Between the two top 10s, the other ones I haven't seen are Beau Travail and Persona. I'm usually a "blockbuster porn" kind of viewer, so some of these I watched once, shrugged my shoulders, and moved on (which can be a mistake, though). Citizen Kane and 2001 are my favorites of everything here, though of course they're the among the ones that always show up on these sort of lists.

It's understandable. They're trying to sell as many print copies as possible before giving away anything else for free. But they started to reveal selected director ballots on Twitter. Already some great lists (Scorsese, Jenkins etc). And of course, in the meantime, critics are reaveling their own ballots on social media.

I am of the opinion that neither list this year is a complete guide alone, and they have to be used in tandem. Speaking of which, It's been a while but I finally decided to be a regular user!

i am glad for the 250 because 100 was way too little for an all time list , plus i like the diversity of the list but still i found it old leaning

Top 250 will be revealed this coming Tuesday Jan 31st.

Full ballots will be online Thursday Mar 2nd.

So a fairly long delay on the update to TSPDT to be expected

Thanks nquoid for the info, can someone give the link to the full Top 250 movies because on the official BFI page it's still the Top 100.

Full critics' top 250 is up, and...they've already fucked up the presentation. As of right now (11AM Chicago time), the site is displaying a three-way tie at #84 that then jumps to #88 (not #87), and somehow Godard's Histoire(s) du Cinema - which was previously part of a four-way #84 tie - has disappeared. Hopefully someone will bring this discrepancy to their attention so it can be corrected. Seriously, they had all this time to prepare for the rollout and they can't get it right?

Wasn't it today that all the ballots had to be published? I've been on the site and there is nothing to be found. Maybe later in the evening. Anyway, by doing some research, I found this link compiling all the major directors' lists...

It's really strange that you can't find this link on the BFI/ Sight & Sound website itself. Or am I looking at the wrong place?
Also, I guess there isn't a list that lists every mentioned film?
