Perfume Genius - Describe: 7
The instrumental part in the second half goes a bit longer than it needs to in my opinion (but perhaps it works better in context of the album, which I haven't heard), but otherwise a good, moody song.

We already had Joy Orbison, but now it is time for his distant family member Roy Orbison. Nicolas brings us one of his last songs.

Roy Orbison - Windsurfer: 8
When you title a song Windsurfer there might be expectations, like musically it needs to capture the feeling of surfing in the wind. This song matches that feeling, as do Orbison's vocals.

Don’t let today’s title fool you: this isn’t a soul song, but a metal instrumental (I mean, the band name gives it away, but still)! Not something I would have expected from panam’s list, but what do I know?

I expected something a bit more Death Metal-ish. I guess it's more like a deep cut interlude on the album?

No voice and not soul. Also no death metal. Whatever it is, it works very well as an atmospheric instrumental that keeps being engaging.

The thing with Biggest Fan is that you can never tell when Christmas will arrive again. Seems February is it; for now. It also looks like acroamor isn’t giving us a happy Christmas either. Because I wouldn’t want anyone to start festivities on a downer I want to wish you all a very happy Christmas!

LCD Soundsystem – Christmas Will Break Your Heart: 8
The first thing we think about with Christmas music is those cheerful songs, but there is also a long tradition in more negative Christmas songs, a lot of which focus on loneliness. In that regard this song isn't that remarkable, but Murphy really sells it. Instead of the usual electronics, it's the piano that does the work here musically and it is quite good.

The Housemartins – Me and the Farmer: 7
Maggie's Farm, but British and more obtuse.

Time for another classical piece. This time around Geoffrey brings one of the big guys: Bach himself. As per usual, the version on the playlist is just the one that comes up first. If Geoffrey by chance would notice this topic and wants another version, please tell me.

As the classical pleb that I am I don't recognize this one either, but this did move me.
I just wish classical artists had a penchant for catchy titles. I can't remember any name of these damn things.

Honorio’s entries have a tendency to have an appealing simplicity to them. Not today, because he goes prog!

392. King Crimson – Cadence and Cascade (1970) 10/10

King Crimson were mostly renowned for their prog rock songs with complex structures, intricate rhythmic patterns and great instrumental prowess. But in their early days they also excelled in ballads, developing their own brand of astral-weekish pastoral folk. Just listen to Fripp's dexterity with acoustic guitar (an instrument he never returned to after 1974), Keith Tippet's piano "cascades" and, above all, what is probably my favourite solo ever (not counting guitar solos), Mel Collins' gorgeous flute solo.

To me this isn't a strange addition to the King Crimson discography. These Medieval-influences were also part of In the Court of the Crimson King. I like it, although not as much as their most gripping stuff.

For a minute I thought that after Honorio, StevieFan13 also went prog, but no, this is from a more pop oriented period in Utopia’s career. It’s the second Utopia song that appears here and oddly only one is from Henry.

Some of the pop Utopia songs did not fit among my favorites from Todd.

But the Trivia album had some very good songs (that rocked a bit more than Feet Don't Fail Me Now) including:

Utopia – Feet Don’t Fail Me Now: 4
Am I the only one who feels that this song starts a new melody every sentence and never finishes a build-up? It does so a few times and then starts over. Describing it like this it sounds experimental, but listening to it makes it feel more like a failed pop song.

Ooberman – Shorley Wall: 8
This sounded very familiar and not just because of the famous tongue-twister that makes up the chorus. The act and song seem too obscure to make it likely I stumbled on it before. Was it in an earlier poll here?
Anyway, I found it a beautiful song, with a strong melody and a great use of three different vocal styles (the lead guy doesn't have the greatest voice, but it works in context). Very good discovery.
