Music of the Early Years: Final Round

Post by Schüttelbirne »

In the past 10 months we voted on our favorite albums and songs from the period before the 1960s - a time that's frequently left unexplored. We dived straight in and collected a list of 150 songs and 100 albums.

Thanks for voting! The turnout was lower than in other decade polls, but we still got solid lists.

Below you will find a list of 150 songs and another list of 100 albums. Rank them according to your own personal enjoyment of the music and include that ranking in the attached Excel document. Please do NOT delete or change the numbers in the first column titled "Sorting Number". You may also include comments.
Send the Excel document to me by PM.

The deadline for this is January 30, 2023. I can not guarantee that you will see the results very soon (but I announced that when I took on the poll at the start of the year).

Here's a playlist for all the songs (almost exactly 8 hours long):

If you find a version on the playlist that is not the first released version (that does not equal "not your favorite version"!), let me know.

If you have any questions, let me know!

Happy listening and ranking!

Count on me for a list before the deadline. The problem is that I want to re-listen to the 100 albums and the 150 songs. I was confident that January was going to be enough since 1950s albums are shorter. Until I stumbled upon Ella Fitzgerald’s songbooks…

I've compiled an Spotify playlist with all the albums on the tournament (1079 songs, 68h 40 min). Only missing three songs by Mahalia Jackson (at least in Spain). For you to enjoy...

Since many albums belong to the jazz genre and this a style that usually include different versions of what is called "standards" I’ve checked the songs more represented in the playlist and this is what I've found:
