This is easily my favorite album of the decade. Beautifully produced and crafted, and a tight story arc from beginning to end with a meaty “Follow the Cyborg” trilogy in the middle from tracks 5-7. I’m so grateful to be alive at the time this exists.
Moonbeam, I love how intensely you feel your emotions. I am giving this album a spin right now and it sounds like a winner.

New Fever Ray is a pretty solid addition to their canon, no complaints from me but also not really anything extraordinary. However, one thing I want to say is that I absolutely despise the cover. It just bugs me for some reason, especially compared to their previous two that are pretty solid (I'd even say Plunge is a pretty great cover).

More emo pop/rock than punk.

At least punk is saying “I hate you because of our class disparity and reject your culture, now let’s party”. Not “Everyone feel sorry for me, now I’m going to go sulk in my room”.

Spent most of the weekend listening to The National and Jessie Ware. Neither stand out to me and will probably be quite middling when I eventually try to rank them. That said, I love everything the National does and I love following their path - even this recent turn towards mellower easier-to-get-into music. It's been an alright year so far for me, though not with anything that stands out. Lana del Rey is a clear #1 for me so far:

1 Lana Del Rey Did You Know There's a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd
2 Caroline Polachek Desire, I Want to Turn Into You
3 Young Fathers Heavy Heavy
4 Boygenius The Record
5 Fever Ray Radical Romantics

I have listened non-stop since Friday, including twice while waiting in line to meet her at Rough Trade. She was a 10/10 human and really dedicated her full attention to each person. When I asked her 'to deface her face' she didn't miss a beat and I got this masterpiece:

New Jessie Ware is now my highest rated album of the year, beating out Yo La Tengo. I’m hoping we get some better releases, or I discover some better ones-seven albums I have rated last year are higher than my highest rated this year.

The Jessie Ware album added a lot of fun to what's been a dull year for me so far. I won't rate it as highly as What's Your Pleasure, but it has amazing sound (like all her albums really) and toes the line well between being retro and kitschy.

I agree with all the praise for the new Jessie Ware album. Good stuff.

As for The National, the band now has the unfortunate distinction of making 5 albums in a row with each album worse than the last. High Violet > Trouble Will Find Me >> Sleep Well Beast > I Am Easy to Find >> First Two Pages...

The year is a third of the way over. Here's what I've heard so far:

Very Good:

1. Wednesday- Rat Saw God
2. Jessie Ware- That! Feels Good!
3. Parannoul- After the Magic
4. Caroline Polachek- Desire, I Want to Turn Into You
5. JPEGMAFIA and Danny Brown- Scaring the Hoes

Good:

6. Lana Del Rey- Did You Know That There's a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd
7. Boygenius- The Record
8. Yves Tumor- Praise a Lord Who Chews but Which Does Not Consume; (Or Simply, Hot Between Worlds)
9. Black Country, New Road- Live at Bush Hall
10. Fever Ray- Radical Romantics

Decent:

11. Beach House- Become (EP)
12. The National- First Two Pages of Frankenstein

On My Radar:

Killer Mike- Michael- June 16th
PJ Harvey- I Inside the Old Year Dying- July 7th

I am also enjoying the Jesse Ware album.

So far, I enjoy Pearls and Free Yourself substantially more than Begin Again.

I would appreciate recommendations for other top songs for listening pleasure from the album.

I'm surprised that no one has made any statements about the latest offering from Janelle Monae.

I thought the two tracks that I've listened to so far:

Know Better and
Lipstick Lover

were at least pretty good.

I thought the album was really disappointing, particularly considering how good her previous albums have been. For me, the two tracks you mention were the best songs on the album by some distance.

Really enjoying the album by Island Of Love, if you like heavy indie

I heard the new Janelle Monae. It's good, but very less distinctly her than her first three albums.

Dang, more people than I thought were disappointed by Jessie Ware. I think it’s a pretty rad record, not as good as What’s Your Pleasure? but like that’s a pretty high mark to hit I think Begin Again is probably my favorite song of the year so far.

I'm not sure where you're getting this. The album has been largely praised on the forum, has an 89/100 on Metacritic, and is the #4 album of the year so far on RYM. It looks like the album is beloved.

I think many people (myself included) might think that is not as brilliant as What's Your Pleasure, but i feel the consensus is that it is a great album, and one of the best of the year so far
