Cher – Take Me Home: 7
A rather sweet sounding disco. Not my favorite genre by a long shot, but this gets a small 7.

Breezin' indeed. This is so light that I'm not sure it really sticks as anything more than pleasant lounge music. At it's core it is good, but it gets repeated many times over.

Since the poll that formed the basis for Biggest Fan was held in 2021, songs from that very year are rare (though our #1 comes from that year). Today we get another one, from a very acclaimed album. Is Michel just the first of many to put this song on their list?

470. Black Country, New Road – Athens, France
Year: 2021
Album: For the first time
Biggest Fan: Michel (#531)

Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band – Veteran’s Day Poppy: 8
Well, I love this album to death. I have other favorite songs here, but just that odd guitar solo in the second half is more than enough to secure an 8.

Black Country, New Road – Athens, France: 8
By paraphrasing Phoebe Bridgers great line "Why do I sing with an English accent? I guess it's too late to change it now?" this band drew my attention. The attention was kept. Also not many artists make sense coming after Captain Beefheart in any game, but this one strangely does.

Despite being jazz and directly mentioning the South in the lyrics there is something here, especially in those lyrics, that reminds me of a more Celtic mysticism. There is an aged agelessness here. Hard to all take in during one day, but it is quite beautiful.

At Biggest Fan even controversial artists of dubious morals get a second chance. In this case literally, as Phil’s nomination is Ryan Adams’ second appearance here.

Ryan Adams - Amy: 7
The type of love song many singer-songwriters try their hand on at the start of their career, but this one is much better than most. This mostly because of the spacious production, which takes it out of the typical acoustic strummings that plague it's type. This is an example where the actions of the singer do diminish somewhat, as Ryan Adams was specifically accused of being cruel to his romantic partners, but overall this is a fine song.

473. Miles Davis - Sanctuary (1970) 10/10

After the kaleidoscopic trip that is "Bitches Brew," the Shorter composition "Sanctuary" initially feels like its title, a warm refuge to end the album in a peaceful note. It begins mellow with Davis playing a musical motif (based on two notes) over two electric pianos. But the band slowly builds up, going crazier while Davis manically repeats these two notes like a clarion call. Calm and frenzy comes again (there were in fact two takes spliced together), providing the perfect closer for such an adventurous album.
