Michel Polnareff - Lettre à France - 1978
Pop, Chanson, Disco, Piano Rock

Allmusic:
Known for his eccentric nature, French pop songwriter Michel Polnareff created a buzz for himself in the early to mid-'60s when his debut single, "La Poupée Qui Fait Non," rocketed to the top of the French charts, but it was his early-'70s release, Polnareff's, that cemented him a place as a legend in French pop. Polnareff was raised in Paris somewhat as a child of the arts, his mother, Simone Lane, was a dancer and his father, Leib Polnareff, a musician who played sideman under the name Léo Poll for many artists, including Edith Piaf. The two immersed young Polnareff in music, shaping his ambitions, so it is no surprise that he learned piano by the age of five and was writing music at 11.

After a short stint in the French Army and a few menial jobs, Polnareff embraced his passions and busked the city streets with his guitar to moderate success. In 1965, he refused a recording contract with Barclay, a prize that he won in a songwriting contest, in one of his earliest displays of his now-famous aversion to conformity, but eventually signed to AZ under the direction of his new manager and Radio 1 musical director Lucien Morisse. "La Poupée Qui Fait Non" was released in the summer of 1966 and rocketed him up the charts not only in France, but in Germany, Britain, and Spain. The song was the first of a string of hits for Polnareff, but before long, the French press focused almost entirely on his garish stage presence. Being under the scrutiny of the conservative press didn't seem to stop the hits, however, and Polnareff garnered praise from celebrities such as Charles Trenet, but the persistent criticisms weighed heavily on him.

By 1970, his stage costumes had become more flamboyant. The French press began questioning his sexuality, and the constant controversy around the singer came to a head when he was physically assaulted while performing. Not surprisingly, Polnareff canceled the rest of his tour, and shortly afterward checked into a hospital for depression when he learned that Morisse, his manager, had committed suicide. After five months of treatment, Polnareff bounced back and resumed his hectic recording and touring schedule, but scandal soon followed when he ended up in court due to a campaign for his 1972 tour that was centered around publicity posters bearing Polnareff's naked behind. Polnareff was found guilty of gross indecency and charged 60,000 francs.

His touring continued through mid-1973 with stops in Polynesia and North America, but upon his return to France, Polnareff found his bank account had been drained by his financial advisor. Polnareff's owed the French government was over one million francs in unpaid taxes, and with little money to his name, he fled to the United States. Unknown in a new country, he was safely out of the limelight and the reach of the French authorities. He spent more than a decade in the U.S. before he cleared up his monetary issues with the French government, and in the meantime he recorded for Atlantic and composed movie scores.

Despite his absence from France, Polnareff's new music remained present in French popular culture and continued to chart through the mid-'80s, until he removed himself entirely from the public eye and quietly returned to France to work on a new album. Kama Sutra finally appeared in the summer of 1990, and the album garnered three French hits. Polnareff remained in France for five more years before returning to the U.S. to perform at the Roxy in Los Angeles. Musical director and guitarist Dick Smith (Hampton Grease Band, Earth, Wind & Fire) executive-produced the ambitious Live at the Roxy, which achieved platinum certification in France. To mark this occasion, television channel Canal + ran a special, À la Recherche de Polnareff ("In Search of Polnareff"), in which he appeared in military uniform (thus resulting in the nickname "The Admiral"); he was interviewed in the California desert by Michel Denisot, and performed an acoustic mini-concert. Upon returning to France, he didn't release another album for 20 years, instead choosing to spend his time becoming a father, and in relative seclusion working on various other projects.

In 2004 and 2005, state television station France 3 broadcast a 90-minute documentary entitled Michel Polnareff Dévoilé. During those years, the artist's music got a boost from unexpected sources. His tune "Voyages" was sampled for Necro's single "Light My Fire," as well the Shortwave Set's "Is It Any Wonder?" In addition, Masher (L)SD sampled "Sous Quelle E'toile Suis Je Ne?" for the tune "Howards' Thinking Clearly." In 2014, he was the subject of another film documentary, Quand l'écran s'allume, that made the rounds of European cinemas.

In December 2015, Polnareff announced that a new studio album would be forthcoming in summer 2016. To that end he issued the single "L'Homme en Rouge" as a pre-release. By the time the deadline date rolled around, Polnareff admitted the album was not yet completed. Instead, he released the concert offering, A L'Oympia 2016, followed by the compilation Polnabest. While the unfinished album continued to languish in 2017, Universal Music France issued the 23-disc Pop Rock en Stock, which contained his entire studio output balanced by a wealth of live material and rarities as a celebration of Polnareff's 50th anniversary in music.

Jean-Pierre Polnareff, a character in the Japanese manga series JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, is named after Michel Polnareff.

"Lettre à France" is a single by French singer Michel Polnareff that was released in 1977. The artist had been living in California since 1973, in part due to financial problems. The song, whose title means "Letter to France" in English, is about living in exile, and is a love song to his home country.

The single sold 476 000 copies, allowing Polnareff to return to France to partially resolve his tax problems.

Once upon a time
You and me
Never forget this!
You and me!

Since flew away from you
I'm like away from myself
And I think about you softly
You are six hours away from me
I'm lightyears away from you
That's how it is, living here

The difference
Is that silence
Sometimes, deep inside me

You still live by the seas
Sometimes in the newspapers
I see you on photographs
And I live away from you
In a music box
Electric and fantastic
I live in delusion

The difference
Is that silence
Sometimes, deep inside me

You're not always the prettiest
And I remain unfaithful to you
But who can predict the future
Of our memories?
Yes, I miss you so bad sometimes
Even though I won't admit it
Love is made out of that

Once upon a time
You and me
Never forget this!
You and me!

Since I flew away from you
I'm like away from myself
And I think about you out there
Yes, I miss you so bad sometimes
Even though I won't admit it
I think about you softly

Wikipédia:
Luc Bruyère is a French artist known as Lucky Love, born in 1993. He is an actor, singer, dancer, model and cabaret artist (transformiste).

Born with only one arm, Luc Bruyère began dancing at the Centre Chorégraphique National de Roubaix, then directed by Carolyn Carlson. At the age of 15, he stopped to study at an art school in Belgium.

When he arrived in Paris, he worked as an extra and played a tiny role in La Vie d'Adèle by Abdellatif Kechiche, who advised him to take lessons. He spent three years at the Cours Florent, performed with Romeo Castellucci, danced several times with Marie-Agnès Gillot and joined Madame Arthur's troupe under the name of ‘la Vénus de mille hommes’. Alongside artists such as Monsieur K, Charly Voodoo, L'Oiseau joli and Patachtouille, he performs covers of French songs, both old and new, on piano-vocals and accordion.

Spotted as a model in a bar at the age of 17, he posed in New York for Craig McDean before finding an agency and a string of collaborations. He appeared on the cover of Têtu magazine and took part in a campaign for Nike.

He starred alongside JoeyStarr and Béatrice Dalle in the stage adaptation of Elephant Man, directed by David Bobée. He has acted in two films by filmmaker Antony Hickling.

He took part in a show as part of the opening ceremony of the 2024 Summer Paralympic Games at Place de la Concorde in Paris.

Serge Lancen - Symphonie de l'eau - 1984 - CLassical

Wikipédia:
Serge Jean Mathieu Lancen (5 November 1922 – 10 July 2005) was a French composer and classical pianist.

Born in Paris, already in his earliest childhood Lancen developed an extraordinary interest in music. He completed the Conservatoire de Paris in piano with Marguerite Long and Lazare Lévy, harmony, counterpoint and musical composition with Tony Aubin and Noël Gallon. His exams were awarded a first prize. In 1950 he received the 2nd Prix de Rome for his cantata Bettina, the French Radio Composition Prize and other prizes and awards.

His oeuvre includes numerous compositions ranging from symphonic music to chamber music, concertos for piano, flute, double bass and harp, as well as two ballets and a chamber opera. Since 1960 he has devoted himself particularly to the creation of works for symphonic wind orchestra. His friend Désiré Dondeyne introduced him to this medium.

Lancen died in Paris on 10 July 2005.

This symphony was composed in 1984 and is dedicated to the great French composer Ida Gotkovsky a good friend of the Lancen family. It was the test piece in the Seccion Primera of the famous Spanish wind band contest Certamen International de Bandes de Música Ciudad de València and was recorded by the Symphonic Band of the Maastricht Conservatory of Music conducted by Sef Pijpers. Serge Lancen himself related the genesis of this symphony as follows:

When I was twelve years old I had started composing a piece which described the cycle of the water. The project was however abandoned and only some themes were left unused. In July 1983, I went by boat to the WASBE conference in Skien, Norway and was seduced by the North Sea. During the travel a musical theme was born and was the trigger for the realisation of my ancient project which I still fancied'. The 'Symphonie de l'Eau' is in fact a musical description of the cycle of the water which the composer defines as follows:

'A slight mist rises and turns into a cloud. Water drops fall on the mountain. A brooklet rises and clears a way throughout the alpine pastures. Soon other small watercourses join the original brook that is now reinforced as to become a real roaring mountain river falling in a lake amidst a quiet and poetic surrounding. The water turns again into a river when leaving the lake and gradually becomes a big stream which majestically flows towards the sea. A slight mist is rising from the huge surface and so the cycle of the water starts all over again.

Anne Sylvestre - Les gens qui doutent - 1977
Chanson

Album: Comment je m'appelle ? (RYM: 3,61/5)

Wikipédia:
Anne Sylvestre (French: [an silvɛstʁ], born Anne-Marie Beugras; 20 June 1934 – 30 November 2020) was a French singer-songwriter.

Anne Sylvestre was born in Lyon on 20 June 1934. She was the daughter of Albert Beugras and the sister of writer Marie Chaix. Her father was a politician turned collaborationist during the Occupation of France. Marie Chaix wrote a book about their father's role during the Occupation, Les Lauriers du lac de Constance (1974).

While studying literature at the Sorbonne in the fifties, Sylvestre started singing in cabarets and was discovered by Michel Valette.[5] Jean-Claude Pascal recorded her song "Porteuse d'eau" (Waterbearer) under the title "La terre" (The Dirt, 1958). She started recording in 1959, and Georges Brassens wrote a preface for her second album (1962). Since 1962, she also wrote and sang for children (Fabulettes). She wrote a song for Serge Reggiani, "La Maumariée" (The Wrongly-Wed Bride, 1968). She recorded a comical duet with Boby Lapointe, "Depuis l'temps que j'l'attends mon prince charmant" (I've been waiting for my prince charming for ages, 1969).

In 1973, she created her own recording company to release her albums. In 1976, along with Isabelle Aubret, she recorded the album Fabulettes et Chansons d'Anne Sylvestre. In 1987, she put on a show with Quebec singer Pauline Julien (Gémeaux croisées, Crossed Gemini, 1987–1988). With fellow singer Michèle Bernard, she put on a show aimed at children, Lala et le Cirque du vent (Lala and the Wind's Circus, 1992–1996). She also sang on scene with Agnès Bihl in the show Carré de Dames (Four of Queens, 2012).

Her songs encompass a large range of subjects. Her love songs are often in a nostalgic mode ("Le Pêcheur de perles", The Pearl Fisher, 1967; "La Chambre d'or", Golden Room, 1969). Some of her songs could not be broadcast because of their strong engagement, and others contain profanity, for instance "Les Gens qui doutent" (Doubting People, 1977). Some songs deal with difficult subjects such as poverty ("Porteuse d'eau", Waterbearer, 1961), homelessness ("Pas difficile", Not difficult, 1986), education in a consumer society ("Abel Caïn, mon fils", Abel Cain, my son, 1971), war ("Berceuse de Bagdad", Lullaby from Baghdad, 2003). Numerous songs give a feminist take on women's life: "Non, tu n'as pas de nom" (You have no name, 1973) about abortion, "La Vache engagée" (Engaged Cow, 1975), "Une sorcière comme les autres" (A Witch like any other one, 1975) about maternity, "La Faute à Ève" (Eve's Fault, 1978) about women's rights, "Rose" (1981) about teen pregnancy, or "Juste une femme" (Only a woman, 2013) about sexism. She also supported same-sex marriage ("Gay marions-nous", 2007).

Song:
Les Gens qui doutent is a song by Anne Sylvestre released in 1977 on the album Comment je m'appelle. The song was broadcast on television on 19 November of the same year, in the programme Numéro un on Antenne 2.

Anne Sylvestre had this to say about the song's origins: ‘It came about because I was struggling with people who were full of certainties and who were bugging me. They keep talking to me about that song. I never imagined that there were so many people who doubted. I like making songs to reassure people, to console them.

The song pays tribute to people who hesitate, who take the time to think and question themselves, and who ‘look like idiots’. It gives them credit for opposing the comfort of certainty. She also criticises those who prefer brutality and reap the rewards in the eyes of the world. ‘Les Gens qui doutent is dedicated to those who are discreet, those who have been left behind, those who have been forgotten by history, both big and small, those who shun the walls. ‘Here, Anne Sylvestre sends the holders of certainty into a tailspin, a world that preaches performance while revering the second-rate and the unassuming.

I love people who doubt
people who listen too much to
their heart swinging
I like people who speak
and contradict themselves
and without denouncing themselves

I like people who shake
so sometimes they seem
able to judge
I love people who walk
half in their shoes
and half beside it

I love their little song
even if they seem stupid

I love those who panic
those who are not logical
well, not "as they should"
Those who, with their chains
To not bothering us
make a noise of a small bell

Those who will have no shame
of being at the end
only heart's loosers
for failing to say:
"Deliver us from the worst
and keep the best "

I love people who dare not
appropriate themselves things
even less people
Those who agree to be
only a simple window
For children's eyes

Those who without banner
and color blinds of the soul
ignoring colors
Those who are enough loosers
to never be by hystory
honored

I love people who doubt
but i would like that people leave
them alone from time to time
And that people bully them
never when they walk with
their autumns in spring

We should say that the soul
make more beautiful flames
than all these sad asses
And we should thank them
we should tell them, scream them:
"Thank you for have been alive
thank you for the kindness
and too bad for your butt
which did what it could.
"
"Autumns in spring" "walking beside their shoes" = ways to show in french that someone is not fitting in the place, feeling outside of everything

It was released on 30 October 2001 as second single from her debut album Près de Toi, on which it features as third track. It achieved success in Belgium (Wallonia) and France, but its sales and positions on charts were hugeless in comparison with those of the previous single, "Près de moi".
he song, who deals with the friendship between the singer and her best female friend, was composed and produced by Johnny Williams and Louis Element. The music video was shot in Mexico and was directed by Vincent Egret. Lorie's real-life best friend took part in the filming. In an interview aired in 2021, Lorie explains that the shooting of the music video was extremely difficult from the extreme weather in the Mexican jungle to the September 11 attacks that considerably delayed the release of the music video.

Lorie performed the song during her first tour ; as a result, the song was included in a live version on her 2003 album Live Tour, as the 13th track. It also features on Lorie's 2005 best of just entitled Best of (11th track), and on many French compilations, such as Just Girls.
On se connait depuis
Quelques temps
Même si on se parlait
Peu souvent
C'est vrai, tu lis en moi
Comme dans un livre ouvert
Je te sens si fragile
Le cœur à découvert
J'ai envie qu'on se dise
Tous nos moindres secrets
Car je resterai ta meilleure amie

Refrain :
Je serai là, toujours pour toi
N'importe où, où tu voudras
Je serai toujours la même
Un peu bohème
Prête à faire des folies
Je serai, même si la vie
Nous sépare,
Celle qui te redonnera l'espoir
On ne laissera rien au hasard
Car tu sais que je resterai
Ta meilleure amie

Et si des fois on se chamaille
Pour un garçon ou pour un détail
Et ça donne
Tout pour toi, tout pour moi
J'ai bien l'impression
Qu'on se ressemble,
On est bien ensemble
J'ai envie qu'on se parle
De tout et de rien
Car je resterai
Ta meilleure amie

Refrain

Ma meilleure amie

Refrain

Ma meilleure amie...

We know each other for
Some time
Even though we wouldn't talk
That often
It's true , you read me
Like an open book
I feel you're so fragile
Defenseless heart
I want us to tell each other
Our least secrets
Because I will remain your best friend

{ Chorus }
I will be there , always for you
Wherever , when you want to
I will be , always the same
A bit bohemian
Ready to do follies
I will be , even if life
Separates us
The one who will give you hope again
We won't let anything to chance
Because you know I will remain
Your best friend

& If we sometimes argue
Because of a boy or a detail
We will give
Everything for you , everything for me
I really feel
That we're alike
We feel good together
I want us to talk
About everything & nothing
Because I will remain
Your best friend

{ Chorus }

My best friend ..

{ Chorus }

My best friend ..

Renée Lebas - Où es-tu mon amour ? - 1946
Chanson

WIkipédia:
Renée Lebas, born on 23 April 1917 in Paris 11th arrondissement and died on 18 December 2009 in Paris 16th arrondissement, was a French singer and producer.

Born on 23 April 1917 in the 11th arrondissement of Paris, Renée Lebas (née Lieben) grew up in the Bastille district with her parents, Romanian Jews who had immigrated to France, and her younger sister. In the late 1930s she became friends with Nathan Korb, the future Francis Lemarque.

Renée Lebas had a number of jobs, working as a typist, dancer and journalist, before winning a radio talent contest organised by Radio-Cité in 1937. She started out as a performer at the La Conga cabaret on rue La Fontaine, where she met Raymond Asso. She recorded her first album in 1939 and signed a contract with Pathé in May 1940.

In June 1940, the Germans were in Paris. Forbidden by the occupying forces, she went to the free zone. Paul Misraki asked her to create Insensiblement. Also in June 1940, she sang Sur la route bleue, words and music by the composer André Grassi (1911-1972). She reprised this song in 1947. She performed in Cannes in 1941, accompanied on stage by the pianist Michel Emer, who composed and wrote D' l'autre côté de la rue for her, then L'Accordéoniste, which she performed and recorded the same year. In July 1942, her younger sister and father were rounded up at the Vel‘ d'hiv’ and deported to Auschwitz. On the advice of Francis Carco, she decided to take refuge in Lausanne, Switzerland.

In 1942, she recorded Insensiblement and D' l'autre côté de la rue, which she performed on French-speaking Swiss radio with the situation in France in mind. In 1943, she recorded 14 Juillet by the famous Swiss anti-Nazi Gilles (Jean Villard) and the song Exil written by François Reichenbach, also exiled in Switzerland.

After the Liberation, she returned to France. She was the first to record an album in Paris studios. She decided to perform live, at the ABC and the Théâtre de l'Étoile in 1946. She went on to perform at L'Européen, the Alhambra and Bobino.

She surrounded herself with exceptional writers and musicians, notably Norbert Glanzberg and Wal-Berg. In 1946, Emil Stern wrote her Où es-tu mon amour? with lyrics by Eddy Marnay. In 1956, the same duo wrote La Fontaine endormie for her on the theme of the Shoah, a theme she was the first to evoke in song4. She premiered Charles Trenet's La Mer. By Léo Ferré, still unknown in 1948, she recorded Elle tourne... la Terre. She sang Charles Aznavour, Jacques Brel, Francis Carco, Francis Lemarque and Boris Vian. She recorded Trois fois merci without success, but Jacqueline François made it a hit shortly afterwards. She gave her last concert in 1963 and decided to devote herself to producing singers and musicians, notably Régine, Serge Lama, Tereza Kesovija and Maurice Vander (under the name Steve Anderson, accompanied by Pierre Michelot and Kenny Clarke).

In the 1960s, she set up the film production and distribution company Cap Films. This company distributed the Super Bug and Les Bubblies television series in France. The actor Pierre Brice was for a time her partner in co-productions with Germany.

She died on 18 December 2009 at the Michel-Ange hospital in the 16th arrondissement of Paris8, and was buried on 21 December at the Montparnasse cemetery.
Je me sens triste
Et pourtant le soleil
À l’horizon
Brille vermeil
Je me sens triste
Et mon cœur qui s’ennuie
Ne voit qu’un ciel
Gris sous la pluie

Où es-tu, mon amour ?
Depuis tant et tant de jours
Que j’espère
Solitaire
Ton retour ?

Où es-tu, mon amour ?
Sous quels cieux
En quel séjour ?
Le silence
De l’absence
Semble lourd
J’ai gardé de ta voix
Les échos troublants et tendres
Il me semble les entendre
Quelque fois
Reviens-moi, mon amour
Le temps passe, le temps court
Et mon âme
Te réclame
Nuit et jour.

I feel sad
and yet the sun
on the horizon
shines a bright orange-red
I feel sad
and my heart that has grown weary
only sees a grey
rainy sky

Where are you, my love?
After so, so many solitary days
have I've been
wishing for
your return?

Where are you, my love?
Under which skies?
On what journey?
The silence
of your absence
feels heavy
I've kept some of your voice
Your troubling and tender echoes
It feels like I can hear them
sometimes
Come back to me, my love
Time passes, time runs by
And my soul
is calling for you
night and day

Tintin ! Tintin !

Capitaine au si long cours
Tu me choques, tu me fais mal

Tintin ! Tintin !

Ou quand tu me laisses te prendre

Tintin! Tintin!

Such a long-haul Captain
I only ever kiss bottles
Around every sea, I have been
Yes, but by myself, it's not the same
And I drink myself down1
From some place, you show up
You shock me, you hurt me
By changing everything that I am

You're not my style, I don't get it
Inside my heart, I hear a voice

Billions and billions of blue blistering barnacles2
It's you, Tintin, who I love so much
Billions and billions of blue blistering barnacles
I can't stand anymore Castafiores
I never felt this way
Fragile and so strong, at the same time
Who would have thought feelings [could bloom]
In the hold of the Karaboudjan?3

Tintin! Tintin!

And ever since then, in your adventures
We are very discreet about it all
I follow you around, I play the tough guy
Even though I admire you in secret
And we don't care about the clichés
I know that when evening comes
The seaman and the pipsqueak
Both find themselves alone at Moulinsart

I couldn't imagine, 20 years ago
Myself, in love with a child-like man

Billions and billions of blue blistering barnacles
It's you, Tintin, who I love so much
Billions and billions of blue blistering barnacles
I can't stand anymore Castafiores
I never felt this way
Fragile and so strong, at the same time
All my life, I will love you
From Peru to the heights of Tibet

Tintin! Tintin!

I will follow you to the end of the world
I'm so worried you'll cross paths with a blonde [woman]
And we'll grow old, side by side
In djellabas, as cosmonauts
And if I rant, it's just for show
Pretending like I'm masculine
But I only like tender moments
Or when you let me take you

Billions and billions of blue blistering barnacles
It's you, Tintin, who I love so much
Billions and billions of blue blistering barnacles
I will love you until the day I die
And if one day, in the future
Someone writes down our adventures
I'll make but a simple wish
That they do not hide our love anymore

1."à fond de cale" is a nautical idiom meaning "in the hold", "at the bottom of the ship". Here it's used as an image to show the Captain's notorious alcoholism
2.I had to look up what Captain Haddock actually says in English for this iconic expletive! I guess they wanted to keep the alliterations, but the literal translation is something like "Thousands of billions of thousands of portholes"
3.Ship under the command of Captain Haddock in The Crab with the Golden Claws

Bourvil - La tendresse - 1963
Chanson.

WIkipédia:
André Robert Raimbourg (French pronunciation: [ɑ̃dʁe ʁɔbɛʁ ʁɛ̃buʁ]; 27 July 1917 – 23 September 1970), better known as André Bourvil (French pronunciation: [ɑ̃dʁe buʁˈvil]), and mononymously as Bourvil, was a French actor and singer best known for his roles in comedy films, most notably in his collaboration with Louis de Funès in the films Le Corniaud (1965) and La Grande Vadrouille (1966). For his performance in Le Corniaud, he won a Special Diploma at the 4th Moscow International Film Festival.

Bourvil's father was killed in the First World War before he was born. As a result, he spent his entire childhood in the village of Bourville, from which he took his stage name. He married Jeanne Lefrique on 23 January 1943. After a battle with Kahler's syndrome, which attacks the bone marrow, he died at the age of 53. He is buried in Montainville, Yvelines.

In his comic performances Bourvil principally played roles of gentle and well-meaning characters who were often a bit obtuse or naïve, such as his roles opposite the hyperactive, dishonest and bossy ones played by Louis de Funès. Bourvil's characters not only managed to make viewers laugh, but also to save themselves, often unwittingly, from the Machiavellian designs of his adversaries.

Bourvil was, however, also capable of more dramatic roles such as the handyman in L'Arbre de Noël (1969). In this role he observes the relationship between a man he works for and the young son who has fallen ill. The audience can identify with the character played by Bourvil, just as they can in his comic roles, so often as a simple man. One can also note his role of Monsieur Thénardier in the film adaptation of Les Misérables (1958), and his penultimate role as the policeman Mattei in Jean-Pierre Melville's Le Cercle rouge (1970).

In March 1948, Bourvil took part in the complete recording of Offenbach's The Tales of Hoffmann with artists of the Paris Opéra-Comique conducted by André Cluytens, playing the four 'servant' roles.

Song:
La Tendresse is a French song with lyrics written by Noël Roux and music composed by Hubert Giraud. Bourvil sang it in 1963 and Marie Laforêt covered it the following year. The composer co-published the work with SEMI. The song has been covered and performed many times.

The text presents human tenderness as natural, consoling the bitterness of life and even indispensable to universal love. The music, with its three-beat rhythm, is particularly moving, evoking a waltz that the minor mode imbues with nostalgia.

On peut vivre sans richesse
Presque sans le sou
Des seigneurs et des princesses
Y'en a plus beaucoup

Mais vivre sans tendresse
On ne le pourrait pas
Non, non, non, non
On ne le pourrait pas

On peut vivre sans la gloire
Qui ne prouve rien
Etre inconnu dans l'histoire
Et s'en trouver bien
Mais vivre sans tendresse
Il n'en est pas question
Non, non, non, non
Il n'en est pas question

Quelle douce faiblesse
Quel joli sentiment
Ce besoin de tendresse
Qui nous vient en naissant
Vraiment, vraiment, vraiment

Le travail est nécessaire
Mais s'il faut rester
Des semaines sans rien faire
Eh bien... on s'y fait
Mais vivre sans tendresse
Le temps vous paraît long
Long, long, long, long

Mon Dieu, mon Dieu, mon Dieu...
Dans votre immense sagesse
Immense ferveur
Faites donc pleuvoir sans cesse
Au fond de nos cœurs
Des torrents de tendresse
Pour que règne l'amour
Règne l'amour
Jusqu'à la fin des jours

One can live without riches,
almost without a penny.
Of lords and of princesses
there are no longer many.

But living without tenderness
we couldn't do that.
No, no, no, no
we couldn't do that.

One can live without glory
which proves nothing,
be unknown in history
and be happy with that.
But living without tenderness
is out of the question
no, no, no, no,
it's out of the question.

Such a sweet weakness,
such a lovely feeling,
this need for tenderness
which comes to us at birth
truly, truly, truly.

Work is neccessary
but if we need to spend
weeks doing nothing
OK then...we do it.
But living without tenderness
the time seems to you to be long,
long, long, long, long,
the time sees to you to be long.

In the fire of youth
pleasures are born
and love achieves feats
to dazzle us.
Yes, but without its tenderness
love would be nothing,
no, no, no. no,
love would be nothing.

When pitiless life
falls upon you
you're nothing more than a poor devil
crushed and disillusioned.
Then without the tenderness
of a heart that supports us
no, no, no, no,
we would go no further.

A child embraces you
because he's made happy,
All our sorrows fade away,
we have tears in our eyes.
My God, my God, my God...
in your immense wisdom,
immense fervour,
make it then endlessly rain
deep in our hearts
torrents of tenderness
so that love may rule,
love may rule
until the end of days.

Marin Marais - Sonnerie de Sainte Geneviève du Mont-de-Paris - 1723 - Classical

Wikipédia:
Marin Marais (French: [maʁɛ̃ maʁɛ]; 31 May 1656, in Paris – 15 August 1728, in Paris) was a French composer and viol player. He studied composition with Jean-Baptiste Lully, often conducting his operas, and with master of the bass viol Monsieur de Sainte-Colombe for six months. In 1676 he was hired as a musician to the royal court of Versailles and was successful there, being appointed in 1679 as ordinaire de la chambre du roy pour la viole, a title he kept until 1725.

He was the father of the composer Roland Marais (c. 1685 – c. 1750).

Marin Marais was a master of the viol, and the leading French composer of music for the instrument. He wrote five books of Pièces de viole (1686–1725) for the instrument, generally suites with basso continuo. These were quite popular in the court, and for these he was remembered in later years as he who "founded and firmly established the empire of the viol" (Hubert Le Blanc, 1740). His other works include a book of Pièces en trio (1692) and four operas (1693–1709), Alcyone (1706) being noted for its tempest scene.

Titon du Tillet included Marais in Le Parnasse françois, making the following comments on two of his pieces, Le Labyrinthe, perhaps inspired by the labyrinth of Versailles, and La Gamme: "A piece from his fourth book entitled The Labyrinth, which passes through various keys, strikes various dissonances and notes the uncertainty of a man caught in a labyrinth through serious and then quick passages; he comes out of it happily and finishes with a gracious and natural chaconne. But he surprised musical connoisseurs even more successfully with his pieces called La Gamme [The Scale], which is a piece de symphonie that imperceptibly ascends the steps of the octave; one then descends, thereby going through harmonious songs and melodious tones, the various sounds of music."

As with Sainte-Colombe, little of Marin Marais' personal life is known after he reached adulthood. Marin Marais married a Parisian, Catherine d'Amicourt, on 21 September 1676. They had 19 children together.

Facsimiles of all five books of Marais' Pièces de viole are published by Éditions J.M. Fuzeau. A complete critical edition of his instrumental works in seven volumes, edited by John Hsu, is published by Broude Brothers.

Marais is credited with being one of the earliest composers of program music. His work The Bladder-Stone Operation, for viola da gamba and harpsichord, includes composer's annotations such as "The patient is bound with silken cords" and "He screameth." The title has often been interpreted as "The Gall-Bladder Operation," but that surgery was not performed until the late 19th century. Urinary bladder surgery to remove stones was already a medical specialty in Paris in the 17th century.

Sonnerie de Sainte-Geneviève du Mont de Paris, "The Bells of St. Genevieve" in English, is a work by Marin Marais written in 1723 for viol, violin and harpsichord with basso continuo. It can be considered a passacaglia or a chaconne, with a repeating D, F, E bass line. It is perhaps Marais' most famous composition that explores the various techniques of the viol, an instrument he studied as a student of Monsieur de Sainte-Colombe.

The work begins with 4 measures of the bass line played by the continuo and viol, then, on the 5th measure the violin takes over the melody. Throughout the piece, the violin and viol take turns with the melody.

The viol part is of great difficulty because of Marais's mastery of that instrument. The centerpiece is not the melody, the violin, but the viol. His work can be thought of as something to showcase the violist's skill, although it does not always have the melody.

The piece also exists in a version for solo double bass, having been arranged by Norman Ludwin for Ludwin Music. An electronic version on a Fairlight synthesizer was used in the soundtrack of the 1982 film "Liquid Sky".

Deluxe - Ring-ring ding-a-ling - 2022
Pop Soul, Hip Hop Soul

Album: Moustache Gracias

Wikipédia:
Deluxe is a French band formed in 2007 in Aix-en-Provence.

Deluxe was discovered by the band Chinese Man in 2007 in Aix-en-Provence, where they were performing on public streets. Deluxe started as 3 childhood friends who were passionate about music, and eventually became a group of five after adding Soubri and Pepe to the lineup in 2007. In December 2010 the band met a singer/rapper named Liliboy with whom they collaborated, and eventually added to the band's lineup full-time. With the addition of Liliboy, the band became a more successful live act in France and other nearby European countries. The band lists their influences as "Beat Assailant, The Roots, General Elektriks, Cannonball Adderley, Matthieu Chedid, Gainsbourg and many more". Their live performances are characterized by using many different instruments and working each one into the mix. "Rhodes, guitar, bass, horns, you can expect a really complete live music experience when you see us on stage."

They have moustaches for a symbol—all the boys have moustaches and Liliboy usually wears a moustache-shaped skirt.

Gwendoline - Pinata - 2024

Album: C'est à moi ça

Wikipédia:
Gwendoline is a cold wave band from Rennes, Ille-et-Vilaine. Formed in 2015, it is made up of Pierre Barrett and Mickaël Olivette. The band claims to be shlag wave, with lyrics about a disenchanted society, including self-deprecation and fatalism.

The group released a debut album in 2017, Après c'est gobelet, which found its audience in the early 2020s, then went on to release a second album in 2024.

Twenty-something students Pierre Barrett and Mickaël Olivette met in Rennes in 2010. They both tried to make a name for themselves in music by playing in rock bands at various music competitions on the Rennes scene, notably through their previous band, Constance. To no avail, Mickaël became a supervisor while Pierre worked as a cook. After this series of failures, the two friends got together one summer to write several texts at the bar Le Terminus, which they frequent regularly. After two weeks of writing, they published a series of nine tracks on the Bandcamp platform, which in 2017 formed the album Après c'est gobelet! which they released unpretentiously as a ‘record written first and foremost for a few mates’.

This first album, which remained confidential, became a success in 2020, after the Covid-19 pandemic: ‘We did it before Covid, so it didn't have any resonance. When Covid passed, I have the impression that it took on a different meaning for people’. The album was then released by the Spanish label Dead Wax Records. The group began playing concerts at the Astropolis festival in Brest, opening for Feu! Chatterton in Lorient and the Rencontres trans musicales in Rennes in 202. In 2022, the band went on a summer tour. In January 2022, the album was remastered and reissued, and the band embarked on a new tour of some sixty dates, including a few outside France. At the end of 2022, they released a new EP, Sans contact, with three previously unreleased tracks written over the previous two years.

At the beginning of 2023, Gwendoline went into seclusion in Lampaul-Plouarzel to start writing new material, wishing to give themselves time despite the public expectation that was now present. They were looking for ‘a balance between a gritty tone and a creepy sense of humour’, with an album that was less gossipy without losing the incisive pen of the first album's lyrics. After a month of ‘catastrophic’ work, the group moved to Brest to finalise their new album during the summer, recording at home. In early 2024, the band released their second album, C'est à moi ça, on Born Bad Records, followed by a promotional tour in the spring.

Amanda Lear - Queen Of Chinatown - 1977
Disco

Wikipédia:
Amanda Lear (née Tap or Tapp; born 18 June or 18 November 1939 or 1941 or 1946 or 1950 in Saigon or Hong Kong or Hanoi) is a French singer, songwriter, painter, television presenter, actress, and former model.

She began her professional career as a fashion model in the mid-1960s, and went on to model for Paco Rabanne, Ossie Clark, and others. She met Spanish surrealist painter Salvador Dalí, and remained his closest friend and muse for the next 18.5 years. Lear first came into the public eye as the cover model for Roxy Music's album For Your Pleasure in 1973. From the mid-1970s to the early 1980s, she was a million-album-selling disco star signed to Ariola Records, primarily impacting continental Europe and Scandinavia. Lear's first four albums earned her mainstream popularity, charting in the top 10 of European charts, including the best-selling Sweet Revenge (1978). Her bigger hits included "Blood and Honey", "Tomorrow", "Queen of Chinatown", "Follow Me", "Enigma (Give a Bit of Mmh to Me)", "The Sphinx", and "Fashion Pack".

Too long...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amanda_Lear

Song:
"Queen of Chinatown" (also typed "Queen of China-Town") is a song by French singer Amanda Lear, released in 1977 by Ariola Records. It met with a big chart success and remains one of Lear's biggest hits to date. The song's lyrics were written by Lear herself and the music was composed by Anthony Monn, her musical partner at that time. It's an uptempo disco composition with characteristic oriental elements. The song was released in late 1977 as the sixth and final single from Lear's debut album, I Am a Photograph (1977), however, was included only on the album's re-issue, replacing "La Bagarre". The B-side of the single was "Alphabet", which had earlier received a separate A-side single release in the Netherlands. In Japan, "The Lady in Black" was released on the side B.

Chanson, cabaret

Album: Quatre étoiles

Wikipédia:
Les Wriggles (pronounced in English: [ɹɪgəlz]) is a French theatre and musical humour group. It was formed in 1995, disbanded in 2009, and reconstituted in 20181. Composed of five members for the first twelve years of its existence, including Christophe Gendreau, Stéphane Gourdon, Frédéric Volovitch, Antoine Réjasse and Franck Zerbib, the group has been reduced to four since 2019.

The group is known for its stage performances (to wriggle means to twist in English): always moving and dressed in red, playing acoustic guitar, their performances are staged by sketches illustrating the subject of their song or choreography. The themes of their songs are varied, ranging from the everyday to criticism of contemporary society. They sing in a wide variety of styles, including rap, reggae, church choir, rock and folk.

Haroun - Le zonard - 2007
Hip-Hop

Album: Au front (RYM: 3,47/5)

lerapcetaitmieuxavant:
Haroun was born in 1975. He grew up in the Barbès neighbourhood in the 18th arrondissement of Paris. At the age of 13, he started producing sounds that he played to a local grown-up (Mokless). Mokless, his eldest daughter by the age of 2, liked the sounds and started writing lyrics to them. While scred, Haroun, alone in his corner, began to write his own lyrics. He rubbed shoulders with other local rappers (Koma, Morad, etc.).

In 1998, he helped set up the Scred Connexion with his long-time friends Koma, Morad, Mokless and Fabe. As a member of this collective, Haroun quickly gained a great reputation, as the first project released, Scred Selexion vol.1, was a huge success. In 2001, the Scred released its first album, Du mal à s'confier (now considered a classic). Haroun went on to guest on a number of projects, including Sniper's Gravé dans la roche, Les Spécialistes' Reality show and the Explicit Dixhuit compilation.

This was followed by two more instalments of the Scred selexion mixtapes, in 2002 and 2005. On these projects, Haroun will be very present as a beatmaker. Haroun is still in demand from all quarters, and can be found on Tepa's Dernier survivant album, the Les chroniques de l'asphalte and Algérie solidaire compilations, and Aketo's Cracheur 2 venin album.

After almost a decade in the rap game, he released his first solo album, Au front (2007).
[Intro]
Rien d'bonnard, j'continue ma vie d'zonard

Composer website:
Composer Eric Neveux was 25 when he met director François Ozon (Swimming Pool, 8 Women) and composed the score for his first long-form film, See the Sea. Ozon then asked him to score his first feature film, Sitcom. Shortly thereafter, Neveux began a long-term collaboration with Patrice Chéreau, scoring his film Those Who Love Me Can Take the Train (Cannes Film Festival Official Selection, 1997), followed by Intimacy (Berlin Film Festival Golden Bear award-winner, 2001), and Persecution, (Venice Film Festival, 2009).

Eric Neveux has composed original music for 60 feature films, as well as a variety of scores for TV movies and series. Recent score highlights include two installments of director Rachid Bouchareb’s American Trilogy; Just Like a Woman (starring Sienna Miller and Golshifteh Farahani), and Two Men in Town(2014), with Forest Whitaker and Harvey Keitel; and later, Bouchareb’s film Road to Istanbul in 2016 (the last two being official selections of the Berlin Film Festival). Eric’s passion for independent film is further illustrated by his work on titles such as La Vie Domestique by Isabelle Czajka, Standing Tall (La Tête Haute) by Emmanuelle Bercot, the Cannes Film Festival’s opening film in 2015, The Attack (2013), and The Insult (2017), by Ziad Doueiri which was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the 90th Academy Awards.

Under the moniker Mr. Neveux, Eric made important contributions to the 90s Downtempo music scene, most notably with the release of his album, TUBA (Cup of Tea Records). Later he co-founded Microbe Records, a respected home for indie artists in France and the United Kingdom.

Eric and his family divide their time between Los Angeles and Paris.
Il était une forêt is a French documentary directed by Luc Jacquet and released in 2013.

It is Luc Jacquet's third feature film, following La Marche de l'empereur and Le Renard et l'Enfant. As part of the Wild-Touch association he set up in 2010, Luc Jacquet wrote and directed this documentary in close collaboration with botanist Francis Hallé, who had long planned to make a major film about primary forests.

Chorus Reverendus - Dans son euphorie - 1967
Psychedelic rock

rockmadeinfrance.com
Chorus Reverendus (3 boys, 2 girls) is the group of producer Germinal Tenas. Formed in 1967 while he was artistic director at Vogue, working on Antoine et ses Problème, the quintet released just one single. The psychedelic atmosphere of the 4 tracks did not meet with the expected success: ‘We're going to hear about it...’ was written on the back cover! Distributed by Barclay, the record was never released. And Barclay did not hesitate to ask the record company Termidor Organisation (owned by Germinal Tenas) to repay the advance: €45,000 at the time! A fortune that put an end to the small label and its only project.

Carpenter Brut - Turbo Killer - 2016
Darksynth, French Electro, Horror Synth, Glam Metal

Music video (RYM: 4,38/5)

Wikipédia:
Franck Hueso, better known by his stage name Carpenter Brut, is a French darksynth artist from Poitiers, France. He has released three EPs, EP I (2012), EP II (2013) and EP III (2015), which were collected and released together as the album Trilogy (2015). He later released three additional studio albums, Leather Teeth (2018), Blood Machines OST (2020) and Leather Terror (2022), along with one live album, CarpenterBrutLive (2017). He has also contributed original music to a variety of soundtracks, both for film and video games.

Carpenter Brut claims his relative anonymity is a deliberate artistic choice in order to place more importance on the music itself, rather than the identity of the musician behind it. He started writing music as Carpenter Brut with the intention of mixing sounds from horror films, metal, rock, and electronic music. In live performances Carpenter Brut is joined on stage by guitarist Adrien Grousset and drummer Florent Marcadet, both from the French metal band Hacride.

J'ai la montre arrêtée
J'sais même pas l'heure qu'il est
Le téléphone a sonné
J'm'suis pas réveillé
Direction salle de bain
J'me fais couler un bain
Je m'regarde dans le miroir
Pas beau à voir
En retard sur l'horaire
Plus besoin d'se presser
Radio libre allumée
Stop pas de publicité
Cette chanson bien cotée
C'est le tube de l'été
Me fait flipper
De la tête aux pieds
Je commence à ranger
Car ce soir terminé
Je serais sur la route
Avec Bison Futé
J'suis pas seul à rêver
Du ciel bleu des palmiers
Et des jours sans problèmes
C'est la vie que j'aime

(Refrain)
Vacances j'oublie tout
Plus rien à faire du tout
J'm'envoie en l'air ça c'est super
Folie légère
Vacances j'oublie tout
Plus rien à faire du tout
J'm'envoie en l'air ça c'est super
Folie légère
C'est fou !

Pas besoin de penser
On ne peut pas résister
Restaurants, boites de nuit
Tout ce qu'on a envie
On peut manger à minuit
Et se coucher à midi
Plus de temps plus d'horaires
Les vacances c'est super
Allongé sur le sable
Et bercé par les vagues
Notre petit corps bronzé
Était vêtu de moitié
A l'abri du soleil
Sous ton chapeau de paille
Tu te fous des regards
Qui se posent sur toi
Je m'approche près d'elle
Je souris et lui dit :
Qu'est-ce que vous faites ce soir ?
Rien de précis elle me dit
Petite boite de nuit
Soirée champ' et whisky
Ambiance folie
Toute la nuit

(Refrain)
Vacances j'oublie tout
Plus rien à faire du tout
J'm'envoie en l'air ça c'est super
Folie légère
Vacances j'oublie tout
Plus rien à faire du tout
J'm'envoie en l'air ça c'est super

I've got my watch switched off
I don't even know what time it is
The phone rang
I didn't get up
Straight to the bathroom
I run myself a bath
I look myself in the mirror
Not nice to look at
Behind schedule
No need to rush anymore
Free radio turned on
Don't stop any ads
This pretty popular song
It's the hit of the summer
Makes me freak out
From head to toe
I start to clean up
Since after tonight
I'll be on the road
With Bison Futé
I'm not the only one who dreams
Of blue skies and palm trees
And days without problems
That's the life I like

(Chorus)
Vacation I forget it all
No longer anything to do at all
I get laid, it's great
A bit of chaos
Vacation I forget it all
No longer anything to do at all
I get laid, it's great
A bit of chaos
It's crazy!

No need to think
You can't resist
Restaurants, nightclubs
Anything you like
You can eat at midnight
And sleep at noon
No more time no more schedules
Vacation is awesome
Lying on the sand
And rocked by the waves
Our little tanned body
Was half dressed
Sheltered from the sun
Under your straw hat
You don't care about the looks
Which land on you
I come close to her
I smile and say
What are you doing tonight?
Nothing in particular she tells me
A little nightclub
A night of champagne and whisky
Crazy vibes
All night long

(Chorus)
Vacation I forget it all
No longer anything to do at all
I get laid, it's great
A bit of chaos
Vacation I forget it all
No longer anything to do at all
I get laid, it's great
A bit of chaos
It's crazy!

I've got my watch switched off
I don't even know what time it is

Charlotte Sohy - Symphonie en ut dièse mineur, opus 10 (La Grande Guerre) - 1917 - Classical
Symphonie

Wikipédia:
Charlotte Sohy (7 July 1887 - 19 December 1955) was a French composer.

Charlotte Sohy was born as Charlotte Marie Louise Durey on 7 July 1887 in Paris. As the daughter of an industrialist and a precocious child, she received a broad education including musical training from George Marty on piano and music theory. She was introduced to the musical world at a young age and was friends with both Nadia Boulanger and Mel Bonis. She continued her musical studies at the Schola Cantorum (Paris), where she studied organ with Alexandre Guilmant and later with Louis Vierne, as well as composition with Vincent d'Indy.

On 12 June 1909 she married the composer Marcel Labey, with whom she had 7 children. At their home on Rue Greuze 24 they organized musical gatherings, inviting personalities from the artworld. She wrote the libretto for the lyrical drama Bérengère composed by her husband that was published in 1912 under the pseudonym Charles Sohy.

As a composer, Charlotte Sohy wrote masses, art songs, piano pieces, trios, string quartets, in addition to a symphony and the lyrical drama L'Esclave couronnée, composed between 1917 and 1921. She signed her works under the names of Sohy, Charlotte Sohy, Charles Sohy, Ch. Sohy, and Charlotte Sohy-Labey, and often used other pen names such as Louis Rivière or Claude Vincent.

She also wrote plays and a novel. Her musical compositions were performed by Paul Dukas, Maurice Ravel, and Gabriel Fauré frequently at the Salon of Marguerite de Saint-Marceaux, where she and her husband were regulars (he starting in 1908, she in 1913). After the first World War, Charlotte Sohy's pieces were performed less often.

In Florence Launay's list of the most important female composers who were active in the 19th century France, Sohy's life and creative period falls between those of Lili and Nadia Boulanger, who were her contemporaries. She is one of the approximately 20 women who, between 1789 and 1914, achieved professional status and public success as composers.

She was the cousin of Louis Durey, a member of Les Six.
The Symphony in C-sharp minor, Op. 10, subtitled the Great War, is the only symphony by French composer Charlotte Sohy. It was written between 1914 and 1917 during World War I and may have been inspired by the death of Sohy's colleague Albéric Magnard.

Sohy began work on the symphony in autumn 1914 and completed it October 1917.

The symphony was possibly inspired by the death of Albéric Magnard, in September 1914, who was a family friend of Sohy and her husband Marcel Labey. Sohy's symphony adopts the same key — little used — of C sharp minor as Magnard's Symphony No. 4. Around the same time, Sohy's husband Marcel was mobilised to fight in World War 1, and the symphony, whilst not programmatic, has a dark, anxious tone, taking the subtitle Grand Guerre (Great War).

The Little Rabbits - Une belle fille comme toi - 2001
Indie Rock, chanson

Album: La grande musique (RYM: 3,15/5)

Wikipédia:
The Little Rabbits are a French rock band from La Gaubretière in the Vendée, active from 1988 to 2005. Their songs are sung in English or French.

The band, formed in 1988, initially consisted of two guitarists and singers, Federico Pellegrini and Stéphane Louvain, Gaëtan Chataigner on bass, Éric Pifeteau on drums and Olivier Champain on keyboards and harmonica. They were joined by Laurent Allinger on the turntables in 1998. The same year saw the release of their fourth album Yeah, which contained their first hit: La Piscine.

After recording six albums, one of the band's leaders, Federico Pellegrini, announced the group's split in a press release on 26 October 2005 on Bernard Lenoir's programme on France Inter. Part of the group then accompanied singer Katerine on stage under the name La Secte Humaine.

Federico Pellegrini, after an album with Helena Noguerra under the name Dillinger Girl and Baby Face Nelson, launched a new project in 2006, French Cowboy, with three former members of the Little Rabbits: Gaëtan Chataigner, Stéphane Louvain and Éric Pifeteau. Gaëtan Chataigner also works as a film-maker, producing the live DVD of Cali's La vie ne suffit pas in 2006.

Une belle fille comme toi
Tendre et superbe à la fois
Un peu perverse ? d'accord, pourquoi pas
Moi j'dis pas non

On pourrait, si tu veux

I am dancing
And on the dance floor of a nightclub
She sways under thousands of sunlights
Menthol smoke hanging onto the bar
She looks at me
And I tumble into the sky
Lost in her green and orange eyes

The night is hot, the night is wild,
The night's beautiful for its hostages.

She rode out through the city
A shooting star in a black and green cab
I lost her because of a trolley car
And on the beach, I drink thousands of glasses
Lost in her green and orange eyes

The night is hot, the night is wild,
The night's beautiful for its hostages.

I remember that weird boy
Undressing me with his dirty eyes
I'd like to find him one day
And maybe even, even love him

And she haunts and pursues me
And I relentlessly pursue her day and night
I'll find her

The night is hot, the night is wild,
The night's beautiful for its hostages.

Élisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre - Le Sommeil d'Ulysse - 1715 - Classical
Cantate

Wikipédia:
Élisabeth Claude Jacquet de La Guerre (née Jacquet, 17 March 1665 – 27 June 1729) was a French musician, harpsichordist and composer.

Élisabeth-Claude Jacquet was born on March 17, 1665, into a family of musicians and master instrument-makers in the parish of Saint-Louis-en-l'Île, Paris. Her grandfather, Jehan Jacquet, and her father, Claude Jacquet, were harpsichord makers. Claude taught his sons and daughters how to survive and thrive in the world. Élisabeth received her initial musical education from her father. When she was five, Louis XIV, the "Sun King," took notice of her when she performed at his palace of Versailles. This eventually led to her becoming a musician in his court. She wrote most of her works under his patronage. As a teenager she was accepted into the French court, where her education was supervised by the king's mistress, Françoise-Athénaïs, marquise de Montespan. She stayed with the royal court until it moved to Versailles. In 1684 she married the organist Marin de La Guerre, son of the late organist at the Sainte-Chapelle, Michel de La Guerre. After her marriage she taught, composed and gave concerts at home and throughout Paris to great acclaim.

Jacquet de La Guerre was one of the few well-known female composers of her time, and unlike many of her contemporaries she composed in a wide variety of forms. Her talent and achievements were acknowledged by Titon du Tillet, who accorded her a place on his Mount Parnassus when she was only 26 years old, next to Lalande and Marais and immediately below Lully.

Cantate:
A cantata (/kænˈtɑːtə/; Italian: [kanˈtaːta]; literally "sung", past participle feminine singular of the Italian verb cantare, "to sing") is a vocal composition with an instrumental accompaniment, typically in several movements, often involving a choir.

The meaning of the term changed over time, from the simple single-voice madrigal of the early 17th century, to the multi-voice "cantata da camera" and the "cantata da chiesa" of the later part of that century, from the more substantial dramatic forms of the 18th century to the usually sacred-texted 19th-century cantata, which was effectively a type of short oratorio. Cantatas for use in the liturgy of church services are called church cantata or sacred cantatas; other cantatas can be indicated as secular cantatas. Several cantatas were, and still are, written for special occasions, such as Christmas cantatas. Christoph Graupner, Georg Philipp Telemann and Johann Sebastian Bach composed cycles of church cantatas for the occasions of the liturgical year

Give to me a suite in Ritz, I don't want this!
Nice jewels by Chanel, I don't want this!
Give to me a limousine, that's not my wish! papari papa pari
Offer me some personnel, you're still amiss!
A chateau in Neufchâtel, won't give a piss!
The Eiffel tower as well, is not my dish! papari papa pari

[Chorus:]
eeeeeeh aaaaaaah
I want to love, have fun, a good heart enjoy!
It's not all your dough that will bring me joy!
Me I want to part with hand on my heart!
Start hands in hands discover my liberty,
forget your ways of misery,
you're welcome to my reality!

I'm fed up with your fine airs, too much for me!
Me I'm eating with my hands, my cup of tea!
I speak harsh and I am frank, so pardon meeeeeeeeee!
Enough hypocrisy, I can't, I'm sick you see!
I am fed up of endless cant, just look at me,
besides it's y'all I do not want, but that's just meeeeeeeee!

(chorus)

Wikipédia:
Gong are a psychedelic rock band that incorporates elements of jazz and space rock into their musical style. The group was formed in Paris in 1967 by Daevid Allen and Gilli Smyth. Band members have included Didier Malherbe, Pip Pyle, Steve Hillage, Mike Howlett, Tim Blake, Pierre Moerlen, Bill Laswell and Theo Travis. Others who have played on stage with Gong include Don Cherry, Chris Cutler, Bill Bruford, Brian Davison, Dave Stewart and Tatsuya Yoshida.

Gong's 1970 debut album, Magick Brother, featured a psychedelic rock sound. By the following year, the second album, Camembert Electrique, featured the more psychedelic rock/space rock sound with which they would be most associated. Between 1973 and 1974, Gong released their best-known work, the allegorical Radio Gnome Invisible trilogy, describing the adventures of Zero the Hero, the Good Witch Yoni and the Pot Head Pixies from the Planet Gong.

In 1975, Allen and Smyth left the band, which continued without them, releasing a series of jazz rock albums under the leadership of drummer Pierre Moerlen. This incarnation soon became known as Pierre Moerlen's Gong. Meanwhile, Smyth formed Mother Gong while Allen initiated a series of spin-off groups, including Planet Gong, New York Gong and Gongmaison, before returning to lead Gong once again in 1990 until his death in 2015. With Allen's encouragement, the band decided to continue as a quintet comprising guitarist Fabio Golfetti, bassist Dave Sturt, woodwind player Ian East, guitarist and vocalist Kavus Torabi, and drummer Cheb Nettles. They released the album Rejoice! I'm Dead! in September 2016, followed by The Universe Also Collapses in 2019 and Unending Ascending in 2023.

Album:
You is the fifth studio album by the progressive rock band Gong, released by Virgin Records in October 1974. It is the last album by Daevid Allen's iteration of the group until 1992's Shapeshifter. Recorded at Virgin's Manor Studios in Oxfordshire, England, side 1 was mixed at Pye Studios, Marble Arch, London, while side 2 was mixed at The Manor. It was produced by Simon Heyworth and Gong "under the universal influence of C.O.I.T., the Compagnie d'Opera Invisible de Thibet", and also engineered by Heyworth.

You is the third of the "Radio Gnome Invisible" trilogy of albums, following Flying Teapot and Angel's Egg. The trilogy forms a central part of the Gong mythology. The structure of the album mixes short narrative pieces with long, jazzy instrumentals (such as "Master Builder", "A Sprinkling of Clouds" and "Isle of Everywhere"), building to a climax/conclusion with "You Never Blow Yr Trip Forever".

Rolling Stone named You one of its "50 Greatest Prog Rock Albums Of All Time"

Q: Master Builder, tell me how you make a temple ?
A: Tools and moon stones,
you don't really need them, you know...
Q: Master Builder, tell me what the temple's made of ?
A: Deep inside you,
you can build an invisible temple in your own imagination
if you will
