Diana Ross & Marvin Gaye – Stop, Look, Listen (To Your Heart): 5
I wondered why I never heard before that there was a complete album on which Diana Ross and Marvin Gaye collaborated. If this song is any indication I now know why, as this is very unremarkable.

Miss Independent gets a 6 from me, mostly for the beat, later used in modern dancehall classic "Ramping Shop" (although this one is at least less casually homophobic).

It’s musical guru cetamol’s turn today and we are going to Bollywood. Curiously, the soundtrack to this film was released a couple of months before the film. I haven’t checked it out yet, but I wonder if that is so people can learn the songs before seeing the film? I can see some sense in that.

After hearing this song I was wondering about music style and looked it up. I also found an answer to your question and your suggestion was spot on! From Rateyourmusic, about the 'filmi' genre that this song belongs to:
Often the soundtrack is more popular than the movie, and in fact for the last few decades the film soundtracks have often been released before the movie release, in the hope that the music will pull audiences into the cinema. Oftentimes people only watch the song and dance scenes instead of the whole film, a South Asian counterpart to the global music video culture that developed in the 1980s under the MTV banner.

I actually found this to be quite enchanting. Almost want to see the movie, but my experiences with Bollywood films aren't too hot, so maybe I shouldn't.

This was in my top 1000 in 2018. Thanks Magnolia soundtrack! Nowadays it's rather far removed from the list, but I still like it as a dreamy sort of nineties R&B.

Geoffrey is at it again with his classical music and this time it is a long one. In fact, it breaks the Biggest Fan 2nd Edition record for longest song. You know the drill, the song on the playlist is just a version that came up on Spotify as I don’t know what Geoffrey prefers.
Note: On his list Geoffrey called this Symphony No. 1: IV. Finale. The fourth and indeed final part of the symphony is never called Finale as far as I can tell. It instead has the name Stürmisch bewegt – Energisch (with the latter word sometimes removed) or an English variant. Still, I can’t imagine Geoffrey meaning any other ‘song’ than this one.

923. Gustav Mahler – Synfonie No. 1 in D-Dur: IV. Stürmisch bewegt - Energisch
Year: 1898
Symphony: 1. Sinfonie in D-Dur [A.K.A. Titan]
Biggest Fan: Geoffrey (#671)

The Turtles – It Ain’t Me Babe: 8
I thought I didn't know this one, but turns out I do, as I recognize the the frustrated way the chorus is song. Very different in that way to Dylan's more thoughtful delivery, but still effective. Also funny that this song has exactly the opposite "message" as their only AM ranked song Happy Together.

Oh great, one of my least favorite things in the world: a schmaltzy Michael Jackson ballad. Now actually performed by someone who is not Michael Jackson, but adds a short pseudo-rap in the middle. Things don't improve.

Just a note in front of today’s pick: we just had everyone’s thirteenth pick and now move to number 14. After that we are at song #996, so just four shy of #1000, the endpoint for Biggest Fan 2nd Edition. I could give everyone a 15th pick, but that would put us at the weird final number 1066, or I could stop at 996 to keep things even. At the moment though I think that I will make the final four completely random to get to a full 1000. Four people will then be lucky with 15 songs I guess.

Who better to start this “final” round than forum mainstay Brad, who immediately goes out of step and betrays us…

I think rounding to 1000 with four randoms makes sense. Running to 1066 might push us significantly beyond the results from the 2024 Top Song poll being out.
